“A” (or community/house league) softball is the foundation of the game in Manitoba. It is the most widely played level of fastpitch and is designed for athletes of all skill levels to learn, develop, and enjoy the sport in a supportive environment.
Community-Based:
Players register with their local community club or association within WSWYSA. Teams are formed based on community boundaries, ensuring athletes get to play with friends and neighbours.
League Play - CRSL:
All WSWYSA A teams play in the Capital Region Softball League (CRSL). The league schedule runs from early May through late June, with games played on weeknights.
CRSL Playoffs:
All teams are required to participate in the CRSL Playoffs, which take place at the end of June. This provides every team with an exciting season finale.
Tournaments:
In addition to league play, A teams may also choose to participate in tournaments throughout the season.
Tournaments are optional and at the discretion of each team.
Teams can play in as many tournaments as they choose.
A full list of sanctioned tournaments can be found on the Softball Manitoba website.
Season Length:
May - June: CRSL league play
End of June: CRSL Playoffs (mandatory for all teams)
July: A Provincials (optional, depending on team interest)
Commitment Level:
Practices are scheduled during the weekends and games are scheduled during the week.
Tournaments and Provincials may add some weekend play.
This makes A ball accessible and balanced with other activities.
Player Pathway:
A ball players who wish to pursue a more competitive level can try out for AA (Strikers) or AAA (Smitty’s Terminators) while still enjoying their community season.
Accessible and welcoming for all skill levels.
Great way to learn the game and develop fundamental skills.
Builds friendships and community connections.
Balanced time commitment, perfect for families with busy schedules.
Opportunity to represent your community at CRSL Playoffs and Provincials.
Registration for A ball takes place each February through your local community club. Watch for details posted on the WSWYSA website and through your community associations.
